Does Transparency Make Cardi B Haterproof?

After six BBMA wins, a handful of #1’s and an anatomy lesson, who could be against Cardi B?

If you ask the newly crowned Hip-Hop queen, there are plenty who don’t feel where she coming from. The “full frontal” mentality of Cardi B can be a blessing and a curse. In a way, it is what she built her brand off. Reminiscent of B. Rabbit, she takes the approach of if I say it about myself, what will you say that can shame me? On the other hand, as we discussed on a previous podcast, Cardi is a creation of the new media that puts a spotlight on every nook and cranny of your life. While these two things on the surface may seem simpatico, I am concerned about the amount of energy she has to put into correcting things that happen in her marketplace about her.

Last night at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, the chart-topping rapper took home a total of six BBMA awards including one for a US #1 collaboration with Maroon 5 “Girls Like You”. Between her acceptance speech, that brought out every ounce of the Bronx, NY on stage, and her more than honest interview with Billboard after the show, her personal Q-rating with me was higher than ever.

Everything was great during the night but as usual the internet, armed with its high-resolution screens and photo editing apps, needed to make Cardi work a little more. Before the show, Mr. and Mrs. Offset posed for a picture on the red carpet. The internet proceeded to focus on a crease on Cardi that appeared to reveal her goodies. The uneducated public proceeded to throw words like ghetto and ratchet around but that may have just a product of her absolute love for the unpolished orientation she takes with the public.

After the show, the “Please Me” singer did not waste time giving an education on the female anatomy and if you skipped sex ed, she also tells you where babies come from.

Did everybody get that? “This the part that gives the dick comfort”. I’m not sure exactly what that pocket is technically called but obviously, the important part is we all know where it’s located.

Cardi continues the cycle of some of the highest of highs and having to deal with a new daily stream of sewage that traffics on the pimples of celebrities. It’s what she signed up for but again I don’t want her worn out with this life before she puts out the follow up to “Privacy” as she is immensely talented. But a lack of energy, enthusiasm, and focus have caused sophomore albums to fall flat before. If you care about the music at all,l let’s not let the conversation fall in the creases.
