NBA Free Agency: LeBron’s Path to Cleveland Could Have Been Predetermined

LeBron James is home again like T.I. after a probation violation .  If you put the pieces together you could see somethings that were connected on that Kevin Bacon level. Was there a cryptic  message out there all along?

Christmas in frickin July came for Cleveland Ohio on July 11th 2014. This the day LeBron James sealed his fate of becoming the greatest Cavalier ever and hopefully you were smart enough to take Colin Cowherd’s advice you put a $100 or more on the Cavs 60/1 odds before they dropped to 4/1 to win the NBA Championship in 2015.  He joins a crew that includes Kyrie Irving, Andrew Wiggins, Anderson Varejao and other mismatch pieces.

Meanwhile the Miami Heat fans cut their shoes, bashed LeBron on Twitter, and even defaced the mural that displayed the king . The team responded by signing Chris Bosh to the max and gave Dwayne Wade a wink wink deal for more years.

It’s a lil hard to believe after a historic run of four straight NBA Finals appearances he would and leave the Heat. This was about more than basketball when you listen to the tone of LeBron’s essay in Sports Illustrated. If you look closer you can see so many hints that the return to Cleveland that no one should really be surprised. Let’s break it down shall we?

Before Savanna James drop this on Instagram.

Before Ohio natives Chris Broussard and Brian Windhorse were constantly dropping possible Cleveland scenario breadcrumbs.

Before Pat Riley felt slighted he had to get messages to LeBron via Rich Paul and held a press conference where gave one of those stories your grandpa would tell you with the historical references and how important it is not to take the easy way out.

Right after the fair weather Miami Heat fans booed LeBron in Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals and got locked out when they left early

LeBron let you decide.

Something that a lot of people are looking over is the fact that LeBron signed on to be the cover athlete of NBA 2K14. In the top selling Visual Concepts game (and probably the only video game I play on a consistent basis) featured a mode entitled LeBron: Path to Greatness. You are presented with a chance to continue with the Heat after the Finals or opt-out and explore your options.

Just as in real life the more intriguing journey was with LeBron leaving Miami. I did find it interesting on a Freudian level the way New York was out out there as an option. It makes you wonder if they could have gotten smarter than signing J.R. Smith to 3 years and $18 Million,  and giving Amar’e Stoudemire $23 Million in the 2014-15 season they could have had a chance to have LeBron AND Carmelo.

The “Homecoming ” (cue the Kanye)  the King comes back home after 7 season to get some rings with Kyrie, LaMarcus Aldridge and few other vets. This scenario reminded me of that 04 Lakers team with Gary Payton and Karl Malone joining forces with Shaq and Kobe.

Instead LeBron came back early because the Knicks couldn’t figure it out. They got Phil in the front office to create some credibility that Pat Riley has done for Miami. Cleveland had some sense and was making moves over the last couple of years to be attractive to Lebron this year.

It goes to show you that it’s worth the time to read between the lines. Stephen A. Smith on SVP and Rusillo shortly after the announcement stated that there were many small things that made Miami not feel like home.  How Pat Riley have the nerve to deny LeBron’s mom passes in any game or make his boys sit on the other side away from the Heat players. Add that to fact that there aren’t enough fans in Miami that care about basketball enough to show up on time to the games. James loves basketball and he wants to play for fans who love the game as much as he does.
